This October will mark the 9th year of the Grappler Fall Classic, however, the GFC will make history this year as a Girls Division will be hosted for the first time in the event's history.

"This is something we have been very close to doing the last few years," said GFC tournament director Tony Greathouse. "Girls wrestling is on the rise nationwide and particularly in the state of Michigan and we have been wanting to add a Girls specific division for a few years but have been at capacity at our previous venue.  With the move to MSU and Jenison Fieldhouse we will be able to get more mats down and accommodate a full Girls division."

The GFC Girls Division will be include 7th-12th graders with 12 different weight classes starting at 84lbs.  The Girls division will wrestle alongside the GFC's already well established High School, Middle School, and Elementary divisions that attracted over 1000 wrestlers from 15 different states last year.

The Girls division will include all the features that have been GFC staples over the years - one day tournament, folkstyle rules with college riding time, and a projected star-studded field.

"Michigan, as well as the surrounding Midwest states that typically attend our tournament have a strong tradition of girls wrestlers who are doing big things," said Greathouse, "We aim to get those girls here so they can put their talents on display in a unique high level atmosphere that has made the GFC one of the premiere pre-season national tournaments in the country."

Wrestlers who place top 4 in their weight class will earn GFC All-American Status and there will be and Outstanding Wrestler and Most Falls Award awarded for the Girls Division.

It's going down October 13th on the campus of Michigan State University at Jenison Fieldhouse.

Registration opens August 1st.
