A look at how GFC2019 participants fared in their 2020 HS state tournament

As we do every spring, it is time to take a look back at all of the competitors from the 2019 Grappler Fall Classic and see how they fared at their respective high school state tournaments this year.

The full list of state placers and champions from the GFC High School Elite and Varsity Divisions can be seen below.

Some notable points in this data are that 54% of the GFC Elite Division field last fall went on to place at their state tournament with 73 winning state titles - 17% of the field.

Also of note is that 24 wrestlers who did not place at the GFC went on to win State Championships this year!

TOUGHEST WEIGHT?
Based on the numbers, 152 and 160 were the toughest weights at last year's GFC.  Both weights featured a finals matchup of wrestlers who finished the season ranked nationally.

152, which was won by Dean Hamiti of Illinois had 25 of its 37 competitors go on to place at their state tournament (68%) and had 12 go on to win state titles, which is 1/3 of the bracket!

160, which was won by nationally ranked Derek Gilcher of Michigan, had 19 of the 23 wrestlers on the chart go on to place at their state tournament!

145 and 171 also saw over 60% of their entries go on to place at the state tournament.

SAVE THE DATE AND START PLANNING FOR THE 2020 GRAPPLER FALL CLASSIC!
The 11th Annual GFC will be held on Saturday, October 10th, 2020.  Look for full details on location & venue very soon!  Start prepping yourself to #GETSOME this fall at the GFC.
